Kindergarten screening for 2nd Campus

The Arts Based School is committed to providing developmentally appropriate, child-centered learning opportunities for all of our students. Children begin school with a wide range of experiences that they will build upon as they encounter new learning in the school setting.

Kindergarten Screening provides an opportunity for the teachers to meet with the children and assess pre-kindergarten skills. It is also an opportunity to discuss with parents pertinent background information that may be of assistance in planning for your child’s kindergarten year. Kindergarten screening is highly recommended but not required.

To complete Kindergarten registration, you will need to bring with you an official copy of your child’s birth certificate, shot record, and health assessment.

Our kindergarten screening is scheduled for Thursday, July 14, 2022.  We provide appointments from 8 am to 2:30 pm. Each appointment lasts about 30 minutes.  You should have received a sign up email to make an appointment.

New Student Playdates

We're bringing back an old tradition!  We will host a playdate for our incoming K at local parks, an informal opportunity to meet one another and play. We've reserved the shelters at the splash parks for these events.

Prospective Parents’ Tours

We have a few available first-grade spots at our second campus!  Spread the word!

ABS Aftercare News

Stephanie LeFever has decided to step away from the after-school director position, effective July 15.  She will continue working in her role as ABS Operations Manager.  You'll still see most of the same faces in your afternoon interactions with aftercare staff. Updates to aftercare staffing will go out in Thursday Notes and information about registration for the upcoming school year will go out via email at the end of next week.

Class Representatives Needed

We are currently recruiting class representatives for all classrooms at ABS for the upcoming school year. It’s a great way to get your volunteer hours for the year and to be more involved with our amazing school. If you’re interested, please email  Aaron Wiley, our Parent Rep Coordinator.   We are starting to plan for next year and will make assignments once class assignments are posted.  Thank you so much for your willingness to volunteer!

Back to School Night-Save the Date!

ABS Back to School Night is scheduled for Monday, August 15, 5-8pm.  To ease parking, we will have staggered sessions. More details soon…

Who’s My Teacher?

Classroom teachers met with the grade level team before school was out to create the class rosters for next year.  They use all that they know about your child’s academic, social, emotional, and behavioral qualities to determine which classroom is the best match.   Class placement lists will be sent to parents mid-July.

Special Visits

Educational research shows that the relationship between the student and his or her teacher is one of the most important factors in a student’s academic success.  This critical relationship is enhanced by our small class size and our educators’ commitment to children.  In support of the teacher/student relationship, our teachers will be offering a Special Visit before school begins.  A Special Visit is simply an opportunity for your child to meet his or her teacher in a familiar setting, a chance to learn a bit about the class and what to expect in the coming school year.   This year’s scheduled days for Special Visits are August 11 and 12, 2022.  Your child’s teacher will be contacting you in early August to schedule a 15-20 minute appointment.
