Meet our support staff

Jennifer Carter – Speech Pathologist
Jennifer has been the speech-language pathologist at ABS since 2009. She obtained her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Speech-Language Pathology at East Carolina University. She has experience working in several different settings with a variety of ages but is passionate about the school-age population and helping increase student’s communication skills and academic success. She is licensed through the state of North Carolina and certified through the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. In her free time, she loves to read, hike, cook, run, and spend time with her husband and daughter.



Scott Ertl – School Counselor
Scott Ertl earned his B.S. in Psychology and M.Ed. degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and has been a school counselor for 18 years in the NC public schools and started here at ABS in 2018. He earned his NBPTS designation in 2003. Scott has written 3 books for school counselors and has presented at state and national conferences for teachers, counselors, and principals to share ways to improve relationships and academic success. Also, he invented Bouncy Bands in 2013 where he achieved international acclaim as an entrepreneur with his success as a top seller on Amazon and over 100 distributors around the world. After selling his company in 2018, he decided to return to his true passion of helping students in his role as a school counselor. Scott is happily married and has two sons, one of whom attends first grade at ABS. Last year Scott started a Chess Club and facilitated two Parent-Child Retreats at ABS and received great feedback.



Anne Faulkner – Elementary School Exceptional Children’s Assistant Teacher

Anne Faulkner has enjoyed working with students of all ages while here at Arts Based School. She is very excited to be part of the EC team. Anne grew up here in Winston-Salem and graduated from Salem College. She is currently working on a masters degree in special education. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening, and sewing.



Liz Green – Curriculum Coordinator
Mrs. Green is a veteran teacher who has been at ABS since 2005. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University where she studied Sociology and Studio Art. She received her Masters Degree in Education from Salem College. Mrs. Green is a National Board Certified teacher, and licensed in Academically and Intellectually Gifted education (K-12), and as a Reading Specialist (K-12). Mrs. Green enjoys supporting teachers and is especially passionate about helping new teachers feel confident and successful. In her spare time she stays busy reading, gardening, drawing, cooking, and spending time with her husband and son.



Ceci McGuire – Reading Specialist
Ceci McGuire has been the reading specialist at ABS since 2006.  She enjoys having the opportunity to work with students in many grade levels.  She went to the University of Cincinnati for her undergraduate work and received her masters of Language and Literacy from Salem College.  She lives in Lewisville with her husband, daughter (an ABS alumni) and two cute kitty cats.



Ashley DeStasio – Exceptional Children’s Teacher
Ms. DeStasio has a bachelor’s degree in Special Education from UNC Greensboro.  She has been teaching in the area of Special Education since August of 2008 with experience in Stokes, Forsyth, and Davidson counties in different settings. She has two daughters that attend ABS, Allison and Lindsey.  In addition to her children, she has a yellow Labrador Retriever named Biscuit.  She enjoys watching movies, reading books, putting together large puzzles, and spending time with her family.  She is excited to be teaching at ABS this year!



Amanda Sullivan – School Counselor
Amanda has worked as a counselor in various settings for over 15 years, but loves being at ABS the most! She received her BA in Psychology at Salem College and her Masters in Education in Counseling at Wake Forest University.   In addition to working with students, she loves animals of all kinds (especially dogs!), loves the great outdoors, and is also a photographer.  She especially loves helping children express themselves through photography and other art forms.
