Meet our sixth grade teachers

 

Alysha Christian- Sixth Grade Teacher
Originally from Pennsylvania, Alysha graduated from High Point University in 2011 and has remained in North Carolina ever since.  She has taught fifth grade and third grade in the past but is thrilled to continue her teaching journey in 6th grade at ABS!  Aside from teaching, Alysha loves to write and paint, read and craft, go hiking, and visit new places.

 

 

 

 

Courtney Hedgecock- Sixth Grade Teacher

Courtney is a North Carolina native who graduated from High Point University with a BA in Elementary Education. Her journey at The Arts Based School began as a student teacher in third grade. She is excited to begin her second year of teaching sixth grade while also continuing to pursue a Master’s Degree in Language and Literacy from UNCW. In her spare time, she loves reading, bouldering, practicing yoga, and teaching herself to play the ukulele.

 

 

 

Katie Hugus- Sixth Grade Teacher
Ms. Katie Hugus is excited to be joining the ABS faculty as a sixth grade teacher Alysha and Courtney. Originally from Arizona, Katie graduated from Elon University in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Katie had previously taught fifth grade at a charter school in Wake Forest and is looking forward to working with the incredible students, staff, and families at ABS. Katie enjoys traveling to visit family in London, where she fell in love with corgis. She also enjoys reading, cooking, and exploring Winston Salem with friends.
