Meet our 7th/8th grade teachers

Jennifer Lewis – 7th/8th Grade  Math Teacher

Mrs. Lewis has been hired to teach middle school math for 7th and 8th graders.  She is a veteran math teacher with 17 years of experience having taught math at Ravenscroft in Raleigh, East Wake Middle School, and most recently Southern Guildford High School.  She is an educator, an artist and a small business owner.  We are delighted to have her joining the ABS team.

Ms. Boaz

Ms. Boaz

Gail Boaz – 7th/8th Grade  Math Teacher

Gail Boaz joins the Middle School Team at the Arts Based School with over ten years of teaching experience at the high school and community college levels.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in math from Davidson College and a Master of Arts degree in higher education from Appalachian State University.  Ms. Boaz is a proud mom of a daughter, Ruth, and a son, David.  Ruth is a nurse in Winston-Salem, and David is an attorney in Raleigh.  Ms. Boaz’ goals at ABS are to participate in integrated learning with other subjects, to teach reading math as a study skill, and to use project based learning as a way to demonstrate the relevancy of math in our world.  She loves to read, cook, walk in her neighborhood, and go to the theater.

Paula Stone – 7th/8th Grade Language Arts/Social Studies Teacher

Paula Stone is a 16 year veteran teacher, holding licensure in Elementary Education, Middle Grades 6-9 English-Language Arts, Secondary 9-12 English-Language Arts, and Art K-12.  She has a Whole Language approach in teaching, integrating Social Studies curriculum with that of ELA.  Mrs. Stone’s daughter Leah began classes this fall as a junior at Appalachian State; her son Hunter works full time and is currently working on a graphic novel.  She is a writer and artist, and a huge Dallas Cowboys fan!

The message Mrs. Stone tries to most to convey to her students is that every moment is reflective, and to see the that joy and worth of the process in learning is just as valuable as the outcome.

Mrs. Dickson

Kimberly Dickson – 7th/8th Grade Science Teacher

Kimberly Dickson has been happily educating middle level students for over 13 years.  She has a Master of Education degree with a concentration in math and science curriculum.  Mrs. Dickson is a happily married mother of two children. Nicole lives and works in Charlotte and Carter is a sophomore at A.U. in SC.  She enjoys an active classroom environment and sees her teaching role to be one of guide and mentor as students learn to become responsible for their own learning and empowered as they prepare to enter high school.
