Our goal

At The Arts Based School, our goal is to create an innovative, inspiring school to serve families in our community. We are concerned with the total development of each student and believe that it is our responsibility to address the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of all our students throughout each school day. This holistic approach to educating our students is designed to help them develop into healthy and well-rounded individuals who enjoy life and learning.

The elementary school curriculum reflects our mission belief that every child can and will succeed in ways that reflect his or her own aptitudes and interests.

Integrated Thematic Units
At ABS, while we certainly teach isolated skills, we strive to continuously give students meaningful and purposeful opportunities to use those newly learned skills. All students at all grade levels are always participating in multi-disciplinary, integrated units of study that give the students an opportunity to participate in meaningful, purposeful and relevant studies. Rather than memorizing isolated facts, students will ponder and reflect upon big ideas that truly matter in the larger picture of life. For every unit, there are one or two of the core commonalities studied as threads that tie our learning together.

State Report Card
At ABS we are extremely proud of our commitment to our students. We are dedicated to creating an environment that cultivates and nourishes lifelong learners. Although we teach the genre of test taking we are committed to a more holistic approach to teaching and learning. Although our students do very well on standardized tests there are multiple components of our curriculum and instruction than are not reflected on state tests.
