It’s always hard to say good bye. We have some staff changes to announce. Although change is part of life it’s always challenging to imagine our school without these special people. We thank each of them for their service and commitment to ABS in helping us develop in to the school that we are.
Mr. Peter Wilbur will be moving to Asheville this summer (after music camp). We know that he will enjoy being near his family, especially his grandson.
Ms. Leigh Cohen has been teaching at ABS her whole career and is now ready to pursue opportunities outside of the field of education. I’m sure she will be a great success at whatever she does!
Mrs. Angela Hunt will be taking a break from teaching Spanish at ABS to stay home with her own children to homeschool.
Mrs. Jaclyn Purdy will be leaving ABS to pursue her next adventure in teaching.
We wish them all the best and appreciate their time at ABS!
We’re excited to announce Ms. Jess Broughton will be returning to teach at ABS. Ms. Jess began her teaching career teaching second grade at ABS during our second year of operation. She took some time off to be at home with her children, but is looking forward to being back in the classroom. She’ll be back at ABS in the fall in the same grade (2nd), different classroom.
We are currently interviewing for several open positions at ABS including music teacher, 6th grade teacher, Spanish teacher, and development director. If you know of someone who would be a perfect match for ABS, please spread the word. Employment applications are available on our website at ABS employment application All resumes and applications should be sent to Principal Hollis at firstname.lastname@example.org
End of Grade Testing
It’s that time of year again. The flowers are blooming, the days are longer, and the tests are coming! ABS students in grades 3-8 will be taking the North Carolina End-of-Grade tests during the last ten days of school.
The North Carolina End-of-Grade Tests are designed to measure student performance on the goals, objectives, and grade-level competencies specified in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The End-of-Grade tests in reading comprehension and mathematics are administered to students in grades 3-8 as part of the statewide assessment program. End-of-grade tests in science are administered in grades 5 and 8.
Parents, please help your child do his or her best by following these guidelines:
- Help your child get 9 hours sleep throughout the weekend and each night before the test.
- Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast, including more proteins and fewer carbohydrates.
- BE ON TIME to school. Rushing around creates anxiety. Latecomers must take a make-up test.
- No couch potatoes, video games, or on-line junkies the week before. Go outside and run and play. You will rest better, think better, and feel better.
- Help them arrive at school with a positive attitude.
